A short bio of Ashley Johnson, Owner of Trendy Fabrics:
I was born and raised in a small farming community, named Tifton; it is three hours south of Atlanta, Georgia. I came from a large family, I had supportive parents, three older brothers who were all protective of me, but now they are all married and I have been blessed with six wonderful nieces and nephews! I graduated from Valdosta State University, with a degree in Middle Grades Education. Yes, I said middle grades—there is no more joy than teaching hormonal teenagers who are still trying to find themselves!
So how does fabric fit into my life? I am from a long line of home sewers and seamstresses. My mom, aunts, and both of my grandmothers are avid, creative, and dedicated sewers. I grew up around their creative energy—it was all I knew, but I wanted more, I wanted to become a teacher and change the world one child at a time. After graduating from VSU, I was like so many other Americans unable to find a steady job in the education field. As things “just happen” or as others say “being at the right place at the right time,” It was my time to make a change—I was finally at the right place at the right time. I found a fabric business for sale!
With a little courage and a lot of family support, I said, I can do this—this is going to be my American dream! After buying Trendy Fabrics, I packed up my belongings, moved to Atlanta and I have not looked back since! Owning my own business has been a lot of work, it’s been very time consuming, but it’s ALL been worth it! It’s worth it, when I get encouraging emails from customers, when I know they are getting the high quality fabric that they desire at reasonable prices, and when the customers keep coming back—order after order.
